My art : Srabani Sarkar

          My art : Srabani Sarkar

Like any other person when I begin my day with a cup of tea or coffee and take a quick look at the news paper, I feel shocked, become sad and disappointed by seeing numerous news of death, violence, rape and political corruption.

I keep my eyes on these reports and try to think critically about the news on shocking incidents and critical issues. Therefore, media that caters us all these information comes to me as the primary source of motivation for my work. I always think about the consequences of these media reports, especially the panic, fear, and pain they generate within our mind.

In my work, I often try to create a reality that is larger than the real world we live in, obtaining motivation from the media reports that represent an engineered worldview and reality to us. Hence, most of my works deal with contemporary issues in India, like, social crisis, women, environment and issues related to culture.

I talked about the power of images when they are combined with words, and I use the medium of printmaking through etching, wood cut, digital etc to maximum this impact. Creating the base block by wood, zinc plate and transferring it onto my printmaking medium. My art work is about a fiction that looks real, feels concrete
